F. Wayne Hill Plant Water Discharge Permit

Gwinnett County received final approval on May 4th from GA EPD to discharge treated wastewater into Lake Lanier. The discharge permit has been in the works for almost ten years, and the construction of the pipeline from the F. Wayne Hill Treatment Plant has been undertaken since 2008. With the new permitted discharge, Gwinnett County can now send up to 40 million gallons per day of the approximately 70 milion gallons per day withdrawn from Lake Lanier.

This is a major step forward for Gwinnett County, as they seek to receive some sort of credit for this return in response to the Magnuson ruling on Lake Lanier. If the returned water can be credited, it will be a major step forward for Gwinnett County.
