At its regular meeting on May 1st, the Cherokee County BOC received an update on the status of the County’s Tree Ordinance revisions. At the meeting, Commissioner Mahurin requested that the BOC look at hiring an independent consultant to review the proposed changes and provide a professional review of current proposals to ensure that the county is getting the best product possible. Subsequently, the BOC has decided not to hire a consultant and the County has revised the proposed Tree Ordinance.
The item was expected to be presented for public comment on June 19th, but was removed from the agenda to allow for the BOC to further consider hiring an outside consultant to review the proposed ordinance. It is expected to appear on the agenda by August.
The BOC held the first hearing on the proposed ordinance revisions at its regular meeting on April 3rd. The Board did not take action on the issues stating that further work needed to be completed. Please review the proposed ordinance and provide comments/concerns to Jerry Presley via email at jpresley@councilforqualitygrowth.org. A copy of the document is below:

In a related matter, Commissioner Karen Mahurin, appointed Council Member Scott Leonard (Cherokee County) to serve on the Tree Preservation Committee representing Post 3. Mr. Leonard has spearheaded efforts on the issue and will be a valued asset in making changes to the proposed ordinance.
