The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee led by Chair Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and House Transportation and Infrastructure Chair John Mica (R-OH) plan to introduce surface transportation bills. The leadership of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee released an outline of their agreement to draft a six year bill that authorized $339.2 billion. The bill would consolidate DOT programs, establish a goods movement program, streamline project delivery and provide a substantial increase in funds available to support the Transportation and Infrastructure Financing and Innovation Act (TIFIA) program from $122 million to $1 billion annually. Chairman Mica plans to introduce the House Transportation and Infrastructure reauthorization bill that will authorize about $219 billion over six years. House and Senate staffs are currently drafting the bills. The bills could be introduced as soon as June but the date is subject to change.
