Results of the Alternative Analysis Revealed

At the Tuesday Cobb Commission meeting, the results of the alternative analysis, conducted by Croy Engineering, were revealed: a $1.1 billion express and rapid transit bus system that would connect KSU to the MARTA Arts Station in Midtown via a 29 mile stretch, with routes that would stretch into Acworth, Kennesaw,Marietta,Smyrnaand the Cumberland Community Improvement District.

CountyTransportationDirector Faye Dimassimo noted that funding options for the project could include federal funds and other local cost sharing options with cities where the line would extend.  A rapid transit system would cost the county over $4 billion, which was not determined to be the most cost effective use of taxpayer funds.

Cobb Chair Tim Lee believes this to be a step in the right direction for Cobb County, noting that every aspect with regards to technology, ridership, economic development, air quality and the best use of taxpayers were vetted.
