The Gwinnett County BOC adopted a proposed property tax increase of 2.28 mills to help restore critical public safety services which have been cut as a result of severe economic conditions. After an hour of public comment from both pro and con citizens, the BOC voted 4-1 to increase the millage rate as proposed. Commissioner Beaudreau was the lone vote against. The BOC held its first public hearing on Monday, November 23rd and held a second hearing and a vote at 7:00 PM on Thursday, December 1st at GJAC. The total amount to be raised over the next year is projected to be $59.2 million. The increase will amount to an additional tax of less than $13.36 per month for homes assessed at $200,000 or less (64% of homeowners in Gwinnett).
