The Gwinnett County Commission voted 3-2 to direct a consultant to draft a request for proposals for the buying or selling of Briscoe Field on August 23rd. This vote was a reaffirmation of the vote in May where the Gwinnett County Commission voted 3-2 to seek specific proposals from 3 firms on the privatization of Briscoe Field. Disagreement surrounded whether or not the May vote was the final vote required to move forward. Commissioners Mike Beaudreau, Lynette Howard and Shirley Lasseter voted in favor of the motion while Chairman Charlotte Nash and Commissioner John Heard were in opposition. Several of the commissioners have not decided whether or not Briscoe Field should be privatized but believe the request for proposals will provide the data necessary to make an informed decision.
