Election Results: Much of the same with a few Run-Offs in the Mix

Tuesday night proved to the beginning, end or a return to the political scene for many local elected officials, while the representatives and Senators under the Gold Dome remain largely the same.

Locally, county heads Tim Lee of Cobb County and ClaytonCounty’s Eldrin Bell both were drawn into a run-off, while DeKalb CEO Burrell Ellis cruised easily to re-election.  Henry County Chairman BJ Mathis fell short of outright re-election and is in a run off with challenger Tommy Smith, who took 45% to the incumbents 42%.   Council for Quality Growth members Patti Pearlberg and Brandon Beach both ran hard-fought, positive, issue-oriented campaigns, but in the end came up short in their quests for victory.   Council for Quality Growth member and Forsyth County Commission District 4 candidate Cindy Mills, with 44% of the vote will face Incumbent Commissioner Patrick Bell in the August 21st run-off.  In the race to fill the Gwinnett County Commissioner District 1 seat, Jace Brooks prevailed, while District 3 Commissioner Mike Beaudreau will face Tommy Hunter in the run-off.

In the Georgia General Assembly, 14 out of 236 members were defeated or drawn into a runoff, including shocking defeats for longtime Cobb County Representative Judy Manning and Charlice Byrd of Woodstock.
