North Fulton Advisory Roundtable
Kathi Cook, Director of Community & Economic Development, City of Alpharetta
December 1st, 2023
On Friday, December 1st, 2023, the Council welcomed the City of Alpharetta’s Kathi Cook to the monthly North Fulton roundtable. Thank you Kathi for your time, and Verizon for sponsoring the meeting.
As the Director of Community & Economic Development for Alpharetta, Kathi provided updates on numerous aspects of the City. Office and retail statistics, for example, gave great insight into the City’s post-pandemic recovery. Retail in particular is doing well and, while office has been slow to recover, Kathi highlighted new contracts with Morgan Stanley and Century Communities to assume office space this year.
Like many cities in the metro region, Alpharetta has turned its focus to mixed-use districts. The North Point Eco-District, in addition to new restaurants and entertainment, will soon welcome large-scale developments Lakeview Park, The Gathering, and Northwinds Summit. These sites will feature pocket parks, public green spaces, running trails, townhomes, apartments, restaurants, and office space. Downtown Alpharetta, albeit at a smaller scale, will also be adding brand new developments at 75 Roswell St., 100 North Main, and 116 & 126 Main; these are primarily high-end, lower density commercial.
The future of Alpharetta, according to Kathi, emphasizes livability and therefore mobility. She discussed a North Point streetscape and gateway redesign, the South Main Livable Centers Initiative, Brookside trails and communities, and the Windward Livable Centers Initiative in Milton. To see more development updates like these, the Alpharetta website has a cool interactive map that Kathi recommends checking out.
