National Transportation Institute

Governor Deal announced Georgia intends to pursue federal funds to create a new National Transportation Institute at Georgia Tech on May 10th.  The announcement was made at the 2011 Georgia Logistics Summit.  The National Transportation Institute designation from the U.S. Department of Transportation is expected to bring $2.25 million a year in federal funds.  The University of Georgia, Georgia Southern University, Georgia State University, Spelman College and Southern Polytechnic State University would become partners in the endeavor.  The institute would help to coordinate real world transportation planning within southern states and would become an academic center for logistics industry students.
