The Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District (MNGWPD) Governing Board met on December 2nd. MNGWPD discussed the proposed water conservation measures and feedback they received during the public comment period. The board agreed to table a recommendation that would have required a “Retrofit on Reconnect” in most metro Atlanta cities and counties. Retrofit on Reconnect would require replacement of older, high-flow toilets and plumbing fixtures with new, low-flow fixtures whenever a property changes ownership. The requirements would have applied to all residential and commercial structures built before 1993 in every jurisdiction that depends on the Chattahoochee River or Lake Lanier as a water source. The Council for Quality Growth along with the Atlanta Commercial Board of REALTORS, Atlanta Board of REALTORS, Atlanta Apartment Association, BOMA and NAIOP offered to work with MNGWPD staff in 2011 to discuss alternatives to this proposal. The MNGWPD Board will meet again on March 3, 2011 at 10:00 am.
