The City Council approved a storm water fee on December 27th. Residents with less than 3,400 square feet of impervious surface will pay $2.57 per month while residents with more than 10,000 square feet of impervious surface will pay $3.95 for every 4,100 square feet of impervious surface. The new fee is expected to raise around $2.8 million annually and go into a fund dedicated to water system improvements such as replacing underground pipes. Betty Price cast the only vote against the storm waterfee. An appeals process has been set up for customers who think they are being overcharged and customers can reduce their fees by the use of rain water barrels and other specified improvements.
