The Cobb SPLOST extension passed 21,525 votes to 21,446 votes on Tuesday night, March 15th. 50.09 percent of Cobb voters extended the Cobb special purpose local option sales tax through December 31, 2015 despite heavy opposition from anti-tax groups. The SPLOST will generate $492 million for parks, recreation and transportation maintenance projects for the county and Cobb’s six cities. Several state and local officials view the Cobb SPLOST outcome as a gauge for how the regional transportation referendum will do in the metro area in 2012. The Council for Quality Growth along with the Cobb Chamber of Commerce and several others worked diligently on this campaign and would like to congratulate the county on this victory which will help sustain a strong infrastructure and economic vitality while keeping property taxes low. You can read the final results here and read the entire project list here.
