At its regular work session on Monday, July 30th, the Duluth City Council voted to impose a 6-month moratorium on all commercial developments over 75,000 square feet even though the item was not part of an advertised agenda and no public hearing was held. The stated purpose of the moratorium is to allow the city time to study and evaluate design criteria and environmental concerns. According to Mayor Lasseter, developers can still proceed with the permitting & variance processes for existing development, however no permits will be issued until after the moratorium is lifted. The moratorium is set to expire on January 31st.
