Gwinnett County Public Schools won the 2010 Broad Prize for Urban Education in New York City earlier this week. The annual prize, funded by the Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation, is awarded to large school systems with urban makeups that demonstrate best practices and have improved the achievement of minority and poor students. This award means that students graduating from high school this year will receive $1 million in scholarships. This achievement is even more remarkable considering the school system had a net loss of $94.8 million due to state austerity cuts. Gwinnett Public Schools should feel proud of this great honor they have received.
