Etowah Habitat Conservation Plan
Listed in Federal Register

Federal Issues - US Fish & Wildlife Services - Etowah HCP - On June 30th, the Etowah HCP was listed in the Federal Register.  USFWS has asked for public comments on the HCP and the accompanying Environmental Assessment.  The Council for Quality Growth continues to have significant concerns over the economic development impacts of the proposed regulations. 

The Council for Quality Growth has been commenting on the HCP since its initial development and continues to ask that the following actions be performed before the HCP mvoes forward: Complete the five-year status updates, perform an Environmental Impact Statement, and provide more thorough landowner participation.

Federal Issues - American Clean Energy & Security Act of 2009 - Congress is currently debating HR 2454.  It passed the House on June 26th.  It now moves on to the US Senate.  While the primary legislation carries provisions of Cap and Trade proposals, there are also portions which will effect energy efficiency in developments and buildings.

State Issues - GA DOT - New Commissioner Elected, Director of Planning Appointed - The Georgia Transportation Board elected new Commissioner Vance Smith on June 18th.  Smith has previously served as House Transportation Committe Chair.  Additionally, Governor Sonny Perdue appointed Todd Long to the new position of Director of Planning.

Cherokee County - Conservation Subdivision Ordinance - The Cherokee County BOC discussed a working draft of revisions to the County's conservation subdivision ordinance at their May 19th Work Session.  The BOC intends to revise the ordinance so that it would be more flexible and contain incentives for conservation.

Cobb County - Sign Ordinance - Cobb County Staff has proposed amendments to the County's sign ordinance regarding electronic signs.  The ordinance was first heard by the BOC on June 23rd.  An additional package of amendments was also presented as a first hearing.

DeKalb County - City of Dunwoody - Comprehensive Plan - The City of Dunwoody is in the beginning stages of developing the City's first comprehensive plan.  The beginning stages will focus on community involvement to determine goals and opinions.

Fulton County - City of Johns Creek - Unified Development Regulations - Since the formation of the City, the City Council and staff have been using the Fulton County Subdivision and Development regulations.  The City Council reviewed revisions to the regulations at their June 8th work session.

Fulton County - City of Roswell - LEED Ordinance - On June 15th, the Roswell City Council approved a new ordinance requiring all new city buildings to be LEED certified.  Additionally, the City Council approved several other steps toward becoming an ARC Green Community.

The Council for Quality Growth supports the 1071 Coalition

This coalition is a non-profit organization, is comprised of citizens, civic groups, businesses and other entities dedicated to maintaining water levels in Lake Sidney Lanier that sustain water supply, recreation, and economic prosperity through the advocacy of appropriate, science-based water releases necessary for the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint river basin.
