Doraville had a special election to elect a new mayor on June 21st. Carol Gilman finished with 213 votes (43.47%), Donna Pittman finished with 203 votes (41.43%) and Thomas Hart finished with 72 votes (14.69%). A special run-off election between Gilman and Pittman will be held on Tuesday, June 19th at City Hall from 7:00 am – 7:00 pm. Gilman has 30 years of business experience and participated in the Livable Centers Initiative master plan for redeveloping the Doraville General Motors plant. Pittman is a former councilwoman for Doraville and acting mayor. Both candidates are running to finish the term of Mayor Ray Jenkins who died in February. The winner will fill the office through the end of 2011. Another election will be held in November to fill the post for the next full, four-year term.
