Russell McMurry Elected New GDOT Commissioner

The Georgia Department of Transportation announced on January 20 that longtime GDOT executive Russell McMurry was elected to be the new commissioner of GDOT by the 14-member State Transportation Board.

In this role, McMurry will oversee a budget in excess of $2 billion and more than 4,100 employees.

McMurry joined GDOT in 1990 as a civil engineering trainee and has worked for the department for the past 25 years. Prior to his role as Commissioner, McMurry served GDOT as Planning Director and Chief Engineer.
