Council Hosts April North Fulton Advisory Committee Meeting

On Friday, April 10, the Council for Quality Growth hosted more than 30 guests at the April North Fulton Advisory Committee Meeting featuring Johns Creek Mayor Mike Bodker, where Mayor Bodker discussed the city’s plan for proposing a central business planning district.

The City of Johns Creek is creating a Master Plan for the central business planning district – “The District” – on 728 acres along Medlock Bridge (Georgia Highway 141) between Abbotts Bridge and McGinnis Ferry.  Although there are several forums and opportunities for your input, the first is on Tuesday afternoon.

Who: Developers and Brokers familiar with the metro Atlanta market and willing to offer insights

When: Tuesday, April 14th from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Where: 11555 Medlock Bridge Road, Suite 190, Johns Creek

What: Focus group discussion to share your thoughts, feedback, and tips the City should consider as we move from data gathering into the design phase and plan development

Why: The City, and our consultant team led by Urban Design Associates (UDA), has spent the last three months completing data and preliminary market and traffic analysis. As we begin designing and developing the plan, we need the insights and ground truth from developers and brokers to help us develop a successful plan.

The City of Johns Creek understands it will take a bold vision to remake the area into an active, thriving commercial core with a vibrant, street-level experience attractive to residents and visitors alike.  However, the City needs help from the development and broker community to ensure the public investments made are strategic and catalytic in nature.  The City is also interested in your awareness of impediments and stumbling blocks that should be avoided to fulfill implementation of the final plan.

The focus group discussion on April 14th is part of a weeklong design charrette.  The City is also hosting a “design studio” on Wednesday, April 15th.  Again hosted at 11555 Medlock Bridge Road, you can drop-in anytime from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. during which UDA will be creating renderings and visuals based on input gathered from the last three months of data gathering and community input. The following evening, Thursday, April 16th from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. at 11555 Medlock Bridge Road UDA will be presenting the preliminary analysis and design alternatives followed by small group discussions.
